Designers Pay-it-Forward Committee
|
Dear IDS Members and Friends,
The Interior Design Society, LI Chapter has created an exciting new committee.
Our Designers Pay It Forward! (PIF) Committee is a dedicated team of design professionals that uses its expertise to give back to those in need within our Long Island community and provide a functional, safe, and beautifully designed environment.
We are launching this new endeavor by lending a hand to MercyFirst in Syosset, NY. MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human service agency and the only NY Board of Education School on Long Island. MercyFirst reaches out to children and families who have been traumatized -- children growing up without parents, families on the brink of disaster, teens that have lost hope for the future – and gives them the foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
Our design efforts will include installing cabinetry and shelving, counter material, flooring, tile, lighting, appliances and hardware. However, this endeavor cannot be realized alone. We are seeking donations of new or slightly used materials for the project. We have chosen MercyFirst because we value the work they are doing and believe the children will greatly benefit from our efforts. Our project is to refurbish a kitchen/independent living space in their school. This space is a gathering place that is widely used by students to cook and conduct classroom/science experiments. It is also used on the weekends and during the summer for those who do not have the luxury to return home and live at MercyFirst year round.
We look forward to partnering with you on this worthwhile project. Together, we can create an uplifting environment for the students of MercyFirst.
